Advancing Health through Nutrition and Science

Danone Specialized Nutrition SEA’s vision of “One Planet. One Health.” reflects its belief that human and planetary well-being are interconnected. Its core mission of bringing health through food to as many people as possible has translated into a regional strategy that merges scientific excellence with social impact. Through the Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) program, the company has spearheaded partnerships with public health authorities in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Laos to address one of Southeast Asia’s most prevalent nutritional challenges. Over eighty-five thousand children have been screened through government-supported IDA awareness campaigns and health check initiatives. In Thailand, Danone partnered with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to roll out screening tools and training sessions for early detection. In Malaysia, the company collaborated with the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to promote maternal nutrition and childhood health. These initiatives were reinforced by a landmark consensus publication involving twenty-six regional experts in maternal and child nutrition, making Danone SEA a driving force in public health advocacy across the region.

The company’s nutrition portfolio continues to lead in product integrity, with one hundred percent of its specialized nutrition range formulated below ten percent total sugar content, exceeding the Health Star Rating standard of 3.5 or higher. With its ongoing investment in nutritional research, Danone has committed to publishing one hundred fifty scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals by 2025, advancing global understanding of maternal and infant nutrition. These milestones underscore Danone SEA’s leadership in aligning commercial success with measurable health impact.

Preserving and Regenerating Nature

Danone SEA recognizes that protecting nature is central to securing the future of nutrition. The company’s environmental strategy centers on climate action, circular packaging, regenerative agriculture, and water stewardship. As of 2024, ninety-three percent of Danone SEA’s packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable, marking significant progress toward its 2030 target of one hundred percent. Through partnerships like the Pack Back Coalition and the ASEAN Circularity Coalition, Danone Thailand has been instrumental in shaping Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies that will accelerate waste recovery systems across the region. Its flagship factory in Bangplee now operates entirely on renewable energy under the International Renewable Energy Certificate (iREC) program and uses reclaimed water through its 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reclaim) initiative.

In agriculture, Danone has implemented regenerative dairy farming programs with suppliers in Thailand, including the Manure Management Project, which reduces methane emissions and converts organic waste into fertilizer for local farmers. This project not only mitigates greenhouse gas emissions but also generates additional income for partner communities. These initiatives align with Danone’s Science-Based Targets, committing to a thirty percent reduction in methane emissions by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. By integrating sustainability into every stage of production from farm to factory, Danone SEA continues to lead by example in balancing growth with environmental regeneration.

Empowering Communities and Building Inclusive Growth

Danone SEA’s people-first philosophy is embedded in its commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and education. Eighty percent of its Southeast Asian workforce is now covered by B Corp certification, ensuring social responsibility and transparency across operations. Gender balance in senior management has surpassed forty percent, with the company on track to achieve full parity by 2030. Through its Dan’Care program, every employee is provided access to health, wellness, and family support initiatives that reflect the company’s belief that caring for people is essential to sustainable progress.

At the community level, the Banyan Project stands out as a cornerstone of Danone’s social impact in Thailand. Established in partnership with local NGOs and the National Council of Child and Youth Development Organizations, the program provides early childhood care and nutrition support for children from low-income families. The project has created a network of daycare centers equipped with trained caregivers, benefiting families in Samut Prakan and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. Danone employees actively volunteer through activities such as learning workshops, play sessions, and UHT milk donations, strengthening the link between corporate purpose and human connection.

Danone SEA’s sustainability journey is more than a framework, it is a living expression of its purpose. By uniting nutrition, environmental responsibility, and community development, the company continues to prove that businesses can thrive by making the world healthier, fairer, and more sustainable.
