about The Budimas Charitable Foundation

Champions of the children

Love, served with hope.

The Budimas Charitable Foundation is a Malaysian non-profit organization that was established in 1998. The organization’s main goal is to give love and hope to underprivileged children in Malaysia. The foundation does this through its three core programmes, Budimas Food Charity Fund (BFCF), Budimas Education Charity Fund (BECF) and Budimas Home Charity Fund (BHCF).

There are a total of 7,300 children from 162 schools in Peninsular Malaysia under the Budimas Food Charity Fund. The organization provides underprivileged children food for recess every school day morning. The foundation volunteers work closely with school teachers from the region, to help them identify underprivileged children who are in need of Budimas Food Charity Fund support.

The Budimas Education Charity Fund provides educational opportunities to underprivileged children across Peninsular Malaysia. One of the fund’s key strategies is to set up educational facilities, such as libraries, in rural and poor villages as well as educational scholarships for the underprivileged in Malaysia. This is to spark the passion for reading within indigenous Orang Asli children. The foundation understands that this passion may not exist in them due to the lack of resources, hence it sees the importance in building these facilities and giving the children the opportunity to read through the donation of books. Budimas’ first library began operations in the Orang Asli Settlement, Kampung Bukit Kepong, Port Dickson in February 2015. Each library currently contains 4,000 books in the library. This particular initiative has benefited up to 954 children. There are 9 libraries overall currently in operation.

Pusat Jagaan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Budimas Orion was built to provide shelter for orphans and underprivileged children. It is the brainchild of Y.M Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra, who is the Chairman of The Budimas Charitable Foundation. The home started construction in 2013 and began its operations on June 2015. The home is supported by the public through generous donations, and is managed by the foundation. Pusat Jagaan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Budimas Orion is an initiative made possible through the Budimas Home Charity Fund. The home stands four storeys tall and is 18,500 sqft. It is equipped with a dining area, study room, computer lab, six dormitories, bays, laundry area, kitchen and a field for outdoor activities. It accommodates up to 150 children. The children are under the supervision of a Home Master and a dedicated team of staff members. The children attend government schools located in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan. Extra classes are held to teach skill training to fine-tune their individual skills.

The foundation wants to act as the catalyst that encourages the spirit of volunteerism in other corporate bodies. The foundation believes that by setting an example, external companies can emulate the way the foundation is giving back to communities. The foundation works closely with companies and other organizations  that wish to conduct corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, in which case Budimas acts as advisors and provides the platform for these external bodies to conduct CSR activities.

An example of a corporation that Budimas has worked closely with is Toys R Us. The loyal partner of over four years runs an annual year-end campaign called the Gift-Wrapping Campaign whereby RM2 is raised from every customer who uses the gift-wrapping service at all Toys R Us stores.

“Budimas serves the underprivileged children of Malaysia as well as acting as guide to organizations looking to begin CSR activities”

Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, MORS Group

“Empowering corporations to establish CSR programs of their own is a commendable way for Budimas to promote volunteerism, as well as expand its charitable outreach”

Dr. Jayanthi Desan, Lead Jury, ACES Awards
