TDM Berhad is Pioneering Sustainability with Certifications, Renewable Energy, and Exceptional Healthcare
TDM Berhad (“TDM”), a company established in 1965 and listed on Bursa Malaysia’s main market, operates primarily in the oil palm plantation and healthcare sectors. TDM has a strong commitment to sustainability and operates in accordance with Malaysian and international sustainability standards while adhering to all applicable regulations.
TDM diligently adheres to the principles established by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (“RSPO”), where this commitment assures responsible oil palm cultivation and sustainable palm oil production, thereby minimizing the environmental impact of palm oil production. Annual audits were performed by BSI Services Malaysia, a well-known and authorized RSPO Certification Body, reaffirms its certification and credibility of the audits. We are also among the first few plantation companies under GLCs to be MSPO certified since 2017. This certification emphasizes economic viability, environmental protection, and social equity, demonstrating TDM’s longstanding dedication to sustainability.
TDM’s estates and mills in Malaysia have been RSPO-certified since 2013, aligning with global sustainability standards for nearly a decade. In addition, the company received recognition from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification approved by the European Commission (“ISCC EU”). This recognition reflects TDM’s commitment to minimizing greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions and complying with legal sustainability requirements, demonstrating the company’s commitment to responsible and sustainable practices.
TDM’s dedication to sustainability also extends to the healthcare industry, reflecting its unwavering commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services. The company’s emphasis on maintaining an efficient supply chain to safeguard healthcare quality and clinical outcomes is underpinned by strict adherence to the Good Distribution Practices (GDP). These practices are not merely formalities; rather, they are essential standards governed by the Ministry of Health, ensuring that pharmaceutical and medical product activities meet the highest benchmarks. This unwavering commitment guarantees that TDM consistently delivers top-notch healthcare services, contributing to the well-being of individuals and communities.
In recent years, TDM has made a remarkable stride in its sustainability initiatives by inaugurating two biogas plants in 2022. These pioneering biogas plants are a first of their kind in Terengganu and have made a substantial impact on enhancing sustainability. Each of these plants has an impressive 2 MW electricity generation capacity, actively contributing to the national grid. Besides, TDM has taken a significant step towards greater energy efficiency by transitioning from conventional lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting. This shift underscores TDM’s dedication to sustainable practices, extending not only to its core business operations but also within its corporate offices.
TDM’s commitment to sustainability extends to the meticulous monitoring and reporting of GHG emissions. In 2022, TDM significantly reduced its net GHG emissions, marking a 16.6% reduction from the previous year. This impressive reduction showcases the company’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint.
In ensuring that sustainability is integrated into our long-term growth, our Board of Directors are responsible to ensure that sustainability considerations are included in our decision making process. The company relies on the Sustainability Committee (“SCoM”) and the Sustainability Working Group (“SWG”) to drive and oversee these efforts. SCoM, comprising representatives from TDM’s Head of Companies and selected Head of Departments, overseeing the sustainability related framework, strategy, priorities, targets, policies and practices of the Company and its subsidiaries so as to ensure that the initiatives undertaken by the Group pertaining to sustainability are aligned with, promote and encourage the Group’s commitment towards sustainability. Working in tandem with SCoM, the SWG, comprising representatives from Plantation, Healthcare, and the Corporate Office, actively implements, monitors, and promotes sustainability initiatives. This dual approach ensures that TDM’s dedication to responsible and sustainable practices remains at the forefront of its operations.
