The name Nestle is world renowned as a nutrition, health and wellness company. Nestle Malaysia employs more than 6,200 people and operates seven factories and one NDC. It has been a public-listed company since 1989 and achieved a turnover of RM4.8bio in 2013

Nestle believes that in order to create value in the long-term for their shareholders, they must also create value for the society. They call this Creating Shared Value (CSV). CSV focusses on three areas: Nutrition, Water & Environment and Rural Development. CSV is the way Nestle does do business; their belief that it is possible to do well as a company, by doing good for the society.

Why Water & Environment?

Water is one of our most critical resources, the scarcity of which will have a drastic impact on the quality of life, food security as well as on Nestle business operations.

Why Rural Development?

The overall wellbeing of Nestle’s various stakeholders – farmers, rural communities, employees, small entrepreneurs and suppliers – is key to our continued success and the nation’s development.
Nestle Healthy Kids Programme (Community): A nutrition education programme aimed at raising nutrition, health and wellness awareness and promoting physical activity among school age children around the world.

The societal benefit of this project is: To improve nutrition knowledge and eating habits, as well as encourage greater physical activity among children, resulting in a healthier future.

Business benefits are: Demonstrates Nestle’s commitment to address the nation’s health issues in line with our commitment towards Nutrition, Health and Wellness and also to enhance our corporate image.

Project RiLeaf (Environment): Riparian Reforestation and Oil Palm Sustainability Initiative

The societal benefits of this project are:
  • Local community and multi-stakeholder engagement;
  • Income generation and capacity building for local communities; and
  • Environmental protection for future generations.
Business benefits are:
  • Strengthening of relationships and engagement with local communities and oil palm smallholders and;
  • Building a corporate reputation as a responsible member of the RSPO.
Nestle Paddy Club (Community):

By providing access to sustainable agricultural technology, rural farmers increase yields and create environmental benefits through efficient water management and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The societal benefits of this project are:
  • New income opportunities for the farmers in the local community;
  • Transfer of technology and technological know-how;
  • Exposes farmers to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), safe and sustainable farming methods and;
  • Farmers improve their yield and quality of crops to meet global standards.
  • Sourcing locallylowers cost;
  • Paddy produced meets manufacturing requirements and;
  • Enhanced raw material upstream traceability.
Business benefits are:
Nestle Chilli Club (Community):

This helps provide rural farmers with an increased source of income by helping them grow quality raw materials that are a result of good agricultural practices while offering them a stable and fair market price and demand for their products.

The societal benefits of this project are:
  • New income opportunities for the hard-core poor farmers in the local community which leads to alleviation of poverty;
  • Transfer of technology and technological know-how and;
  • Exposes farmers to Good Agricultural Practices.
Business benefits are:
  • Locally sourced raw material at specified quality and foreseeable price;
  • Stability of supply, traceability & freshness is maintained and;
  • Reduced reliance on imports.
