“KASIKORNBANK PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED is the first commercial bank in Thailand and in ASEAN that has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) 2016, including the DJSI World Index and the DJSI Emerging Markets Index.”

As one of Thailand’s largest banks, KASIKORNBANK PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED, or KBank as it is referred to. KBank serves, supports and provides financial convenience to cross-border trade, investment, and settlements via branches, representative offices, digital platforms, and regional business partnerships with 73 financial institutions in 11 countries, both within and outside the AEC+3 territory. The bank has been operating for more than 70 years and its activities revolve mainly around commercial banking, securities and related businesses.
Recently, in an effort to demonstrate its commitment to environmental conservation, the bank announced its energy conservation policy, while looking to reduce greenhouse gas emission from the bank’s operations by up to 25 percent by 2020 from a baseline of its 2012 levels. This is in line with and an effort towards achieving the goals set by Thailand’s pledge at the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change to reduce greenhouse gas emission. KBank has stipulated its corporate aim to be a bank of sustainability, to embrace sustainable development in the economy, in society and in the environment as the foundation for their operations.

It has stated its commitment to driving a responsible corporate citizen philosophy throughout the organisation by focusing on contributing to climate change and enhancing the well-being of people and communities.

The Bank has embraced sustainable development and ingrained it into their workforce consciousness through Green DNA resolution. The Green DNA is the organisation’s resolution to pursue sustainable development in economy and society as a central building block of their organisational culture.
Energy policies, goals and operational plans will be reviewed and adjusted every year by executives and the Energy Management Working Group. The Bank maintains high Corporate Governance standards and embraces sustainable development in all aspects of the Bank’s activities to ensure maximum benefit to all stakeholders, paving the way towards being a Bank of Sustainability for society and nation.

As part of the bank’s Green DNA strategy are four key areas of climate change support for a low-carbon economy. The first area is customers, and in this area the bank provides renewable energy financing and facilitating energy and environmental conservation project financing under the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in its Credit Policy and Investment Policy. The second area involves employees who are involved in Environmental Management projects and initiatives. Environmental awareness among employees is also a priority and focus at KBank. The third area involves suppliers: in this area, the bank exercises and promotes the environmental preservation responsibility towards suppliers in the supply chain. The fourth area of support for the Green DNA strategy involves communities. There are volunteer programmes such as the Rak Pa Nan Project and the KBank Caring for the Urban Oasis of Bangkok Project.
These clearly-defined strategies and policies governing energy consumption and environmental conservation serve as operational guidelines for their business units. Additionally, internal communication and organised campaigns are undertaken to ensure awareness is sparked and disseminated among their employees. In all their strategies and policies, the bank has clearly stated the importance of supporting employees in gaining more knowledge and participating in all their environmental preservation activities.

The bank’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, for they are the first commercial bank in Thailand and in ASEAN that has been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) 2016, reflecting the recognition that KBank’s sustainability-driven operations have achieved international standards. Domestically, KBank was included in the ‘Thailand Sustainability Investment 2016’ list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand as a ‘Sustainable Stock.’
