“A Culture Of Thriving“
Making a difference in every life touched.
Johnson & Johnson (J&J) is the world’s largest and most broadly based healthcare company, having been around for more than 130 years. They strive to improve access and affordability, create healthier communities, and put a healthy mind, body and environment within reach of everyone, everywhere.
J&J takes a total health approach to helping people live their healthiest lives, with products that are rooted in science and endorsed by professionals. They understand that to thrive, people need healthy places to live, work and play. With that in mind, they are accelerating action to protect the environment and address important human health challenges.
The company has set ambitious goals to deliver greater benefits for people, communities and the planet. They are deepening partnerships to tackle complex health issues, starting with smoking cessation and preventable skin cancers because they believe that healthy lives require going all in to reduce preventable diseases. They are also innovating to make packaging easier to recycle or reuse, increasing their use of recycled plastics and paper in their product packaging, and powering more of their operations with renewable energy, as healthy lives demand a healthy planet.
Apart from their comprehensive sustainability agenda, J&J has long placed the welfare of its employees at the forefront of their business. The healthcare giant not only strives to provide its employees with industry-leading benefits—such as global parental leave and military leave—but it’s also working to have the world’s healthiest workforce by offering its employees access to programs and services that support personal well-being.
One key program is Energy for Performance (E4P). During the two-day program, participants complete exercises that can help them identify and prioritize the most meaningful components of their lives. They also take part in seminars about foods and activities that have been scientifically proven to boost energy.
The program, which is offered to everyone from members of the military to high-performing athletes to the general public, is free to all 130,000+ employees at the company’s locations around the world. To date, more than 60,000 have taken the course, helping J&J meet—and very likely exceed—their 100,000 employee goal by the year 2020.
The Covid-19 pandemic has once again brought to light the glaring inequities in the health systems that put the most vulnerable at risk. J&J’s commitment to help build resilient community-based health systems with thriving frontline health workers at their heart has never been stronger.
The company believes that the skill set, expertise and ingenuity of their employees are the key to the effectiveness in advancing the trajectory of health. To unleash the potential and impact of their talent pool, J&J has created programs and experiences that encourage volunteerism and provide employees a range of opportunities to help their community-based partners address their critical capacity-building needs.
These programs provide a triple win—NGOs gain extra skills that allow them to make a difference in their communities, employees gain a life-changing experience, and J&J benefits from employees who return to their job rejuvenated and even more committed to a healthy and equitable world for all.
The company also strives to be a trusted community partner, including in times of crisis. In the immediate aftermath of any major disaster, J&J works with international relief partners and local affiliates to assess and rapidly respond—in many cases within hours—to critical health needs with an array of consumer, pharmaceutical and medical products. The Global Community Impact (GCI) organization (with funding from Johnson & Johnson Foundation) works with partners on the front lines of care to help communities by coordinating product donations and through programs that help communities recover, rebuild and become resilient.
“Healthcare giants Johnson & Johnson have a multilevel approach to the health of the planet, its people, and J&J’s own staff. This well-constructed ecosystem of care and community responsibility makes them one of the most lauded corporations in the world.”
