Good leadership inspires greatness at Kaspersky

Kaspersky is a global cyber security company founded in 1997. Its deep threat intelligence and security expertise is constantly transforming into innovative security solutions and services to protect businesses, critical infrastructure, governments and consumers around the globe. The company’s comprehensive security portfolio includes leading endpoint protection and a number of specialized security solutions and services to fight sophisticated and evolving digital threats. In 2018, Kaspersky products participated in 88 independent tests and reviews. Its products were awarded 73 firsts and achieved 77 top-three finishes.

Stephan Neumeier led the company’s overall APAC business to double-digit growth in 2017, just six months after he joined the company. The German Managing Director has also implemented industry standard practices to the company using knowledge gained from his past career. Among them were the RFY (reach, frequency and yield) module to boost the SMB (small and medium-sized businesses) business, a regular ‘all hands’ call to boost employee motivation, drive and understanding of the business, and an action items tracking system.

Leipzig-born Neumeier shares that with Asia being an emerging and culturally diverse market, there is no silver bullet to magically resolve every issue. “With every decision made, the understanding of cultural difference helps to make it more precise and effective. If you fail to consider cultural matters, decisions often attract more negative but valid responses and disagreement. Change is hard for any business and employee resistance is inevitable. However, the technology industry grows rapidly and changes extensively by the minute. This growth affects business opportunities, operations as well as the reputation of the company. I would say I’m not afraid to take calculated risks and implement huge changes. As an example, even if something is being done similarly in a certain way at a global level, I would still suggest and recommend improvements that I see fit.”
The outstanding leader, who counts his army Colonel father and his swimming coach as early role models, believes that humbleness, humility, and a dash of pragmatism never goes far wrong when dealing with people. “I believe everyone plays an important role in creating success. I find a sense of satisfaction when I am able to inspire my people with a clear vision and direction – providing a strong sense of purpose for all who are involved.”

“I believe everyone plays an important role in creating success. I find a sense of satisfaction when I am able to inspire my people with a clear vision and direction – providing a strong sense of purpose for all who are involved.”

As far as his business world role models are concerned, he names Eugene Kaspersky, Michael Kaack, Rick Seeto and Francois Lancon (Neumeier’s line manager at Avaya) as oracles and problem solvers who have set the bar high, personified their era and who are still developing it in their own unique styles.
