about Per Magnusson

Scaling the pinnacle of leadership

Advancing and building though trying times

The Jebsen & Jessen Group operates a diversified enterprise, encompassing five different business units that operate autonomously, including Cable Technology, Ingredients, Life Sciences, Packaging and Technology. Active in manufacturing, engineering and distribution, the group’s footprint extends across South East Asia and China.

Immensely proud of their unique heritage, the group forms part of a larger family enterprisethat has spanned more than 125 years, growing from strength to strength. Their local presence, regional network, industry expertise, and global solutions enable them to do more for their customers.

Overseeing operations as a member of the Executive Board is Group Chief Executive Officer, Per Magnusson. A native of Sweden, Magnusson holds Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering, as well as Business Administration from renowned universities. His leadership style has undoubtedly impacted the leadership style of the Group through the strong focus on competence development, which also encompasses the group’s in-house Management Development Program.

As a young engineer in Sweden, he experienced firsthand the importance of competent development for first line managers. As such, Magnusson has championed strong management development programs within the Group. Apart from conventional programs,Jebsen & Jessen Group has created a program to ensure every manager is performing at their best, and given the training and insight needed on how to build strong teams. This is particularly necessary seeing how the Group operates more than 30 subsidiaries and associate companies in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Each of J&J’s business units operates autonomously, leveraging the Group’s regional platform to provide local expertise and local access to some of the best products and services.

With a diverse base of over 20,000 customers in the region and beyond, Jebsen & Jessen’s customers include global multinationals and a powerhouse of small and medium-sized enterprises.

With corporate social responsibility being a strong principle at Jebsen & Jessen, they were the first industrial company to become carbon neutral back in 2011.Jebsen & Jessen Group continues to evaluate its business practices in order to continue its strong focus on care for the environment and people.

Magnusson believes that being humble is by far the most important trait of a good leader. He believes that with humility comes two vital traits: being critical of one’s own achievements in order to constantly strive to learn and do better, and to be observant enough to take note of the ‘golden nuggets’ that exist within each and every person in the organization.

With his diverse history and experience, combined with many years in top management, as well as a keen interest in technology and digitalisation, Magnusson hopes to be able to contribute valuable perspectives, stability and a long-term view. Having lived and worked in three continents and five different countries – the last 15 years being in Malaysia and Singapore – has moulded an intracultural understanding and experience that contributes to his leadership profile.

“In 2021, Jebsen & Jessen launched a Group-wide strategy with the battle cry of ‘Advance and Build’. With the main focus on growth, particularly in the depth and breadth of our business platform and the capabilities of our employees, this move signifies our healthy recovery from the pandemic, and the optimistic roadmap for the next leg of our journey. Winning at the ACES would mean recognition for our corporate culture at J&J, as well as for everyone in the group who works tirelessly to achieve a vital goal that has an ever-moving goal post,” Magnusson observes.

“Being at the helm of a Group with such a diversified portfolio of services, across so many countries and thousands of associates, Per has distinguished himself by being able to bridge cultures, mindsets and processes in order to steer J&J to the heights it has achieved.”

Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, MORS Group

“Per personifies some of the best traits of the Swedish: a clear-eyed ability to see a need and address it, as well as the ability to distill the need of the Group’s customers and employees, forging paths to make the two run parallel and ultimately meet in a happy confluence.”
