A Culture of Care

How values shape service deliveries and success

Dr. Chairat Panthuraamphorn has been the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Samitivej and Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) Group of Hospitals since January 2014. The Samitivej and Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) Group of Hospitals consists of the seven hospitals of the Samitivej Group and BNH Hospital.

After receiving his Doctor of Medicine Degree and Diploma of the Thai Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Mahidol University in 1984, he worked as an ob-gyn physician at the non-profit Hua Chiew Hospital for more than 15 years before changing his field of work to management. He joined the Samitivej Group in 2007 as Deputy Hospital Director at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, and within six years, rose in ranks to hold his current position as Managing Director and CEO of the Samitivej and BNH Group of Hospitals.
Over the years, Dr. Chairat has pursued certificate courses in his field, expanding his knowledge in healthcare and business management, strategic planning, digital media and innovation. However, he credits his success in his profession to the experience he’s had on-the-job, facing different situations in organisations of various sizes with a diverse range of stakeholders; experimenting, observing, questioning, and benchmarking with other industries, and networking.

Dr. Chairat is an innovative leader who avoids making enemies and adapts his leadership style to different situations. He believes it is especially important to be a dynamic or agile leader who must be able to adapt to the current disruptive era in which strategies, tools, methods, and ways of execution need to be changed according to situation and forecasts. Most importantly, he feels that a successful leader must be able to contribute value to all his stakeholders.
Dr. Chairat strives to be a “Man of Value” rather than a man of success. He believes that every implementation plan must provide benefits and create value to the Samitivej and Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) Group of Hospitals’ stakeholders. In fact, his long-term goal is to implement a new corporate culture called “Agile Organization of Value”. In the “Agile Organization of Value”, employees are always a step ahead of any potential change while creating value to customers by helping them prevent illness through early detection, disease screening and preventive medicine. By doing so, he hopes to reduce healthcare costs in Thailand, which will benefit society at large.

Being in the service industry, Dr. Chairat puts high value on his people. By matching the right people to the right task, he effectively gives them job satisfaction. He also inspires them to work effectively in order to have a good balance of work and personal life. In doing these, he keeps his people happy and productive, which in turn, lead to success and sustainable growth for his company.
He credits his achievements to two people whose values and principles he admired when he was growing up. His mother, through her love and guidance, instilled in him the generosity to help others without expecting anything in return. Privy Councillor Kasem Wattanachai, a mentor and role model, showed Dr. Chairat the nobleness of applying himself whole-heartedly to his chosen profession.

Under Dr. Chairat’s leadership, the Samitivej Group has won numerous awards, including Best Healthcare Medical Services Award for environmental sustainability and organizational development for five consecutive years (2013-2017) at the Thailand Top Company Awards, an Outstanding Entrepreneurship from Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA) in 2014, World’s Best Hospital for medical tourists recognised by Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA) (2017-2018), and Top Choice Medical & Wellness from 2017 People’s Choice Awards Thailand as voted by Chinese tourists.
