“My leadership style has been greatly influenced by the values inculcated in me by my family, nurtured by my education, and moulded by my experience and my interaction with people.”

Genpact Services LLC is a global professional services firm that focuses on delivering digital transformation to its clients by putting digital and data to work to create a competitive advantage. The company delivers value to its clients in two ways – through digital-led, domain-enabled solutions that drive innovation, and through intelligent operations enabled by digital technology that designs, transforms, and runs clients’ operations.
Genpact Philippines has a footprint in three locations – Alabang, Quezon City and Bataan – and has established itself as one of the top employers in these areas. Country Manager Danilo Sebastian Reyes, 49, has been the driving force behind Genpact’s growth in the Philippines since its establishment in 2006. Despite the company being a late entrant in the market, it became the Fastest Growing BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) Company within two years, as awarded by the ICT Awards.

“The Business Process Outsourcing industry is a very competitive one but we are proud to be one of its pioneers in the Philippines. Our focus so far has been to create an ‘Operations Powerhouse’ that can source, recruit, train, manage, motivate, and retain an effective workforce in order to provide high-quality services. Genpact’s ability to deliver continuous process improvement is an important part of the value that we offer our clients. We have developed a wealth of best practices and business insights over the last 19 years, with which we drive operational excellence” says Reyes.
A Computer Science graduate from De La Salle University, Reyes has also undertaken an executive programme jointly organised by IMD, Ashridge University and Monash University. He believes that these educational programmes have given him the necessary foundation to deal with complex business situations. “However, these learnt skills need to be combined with business savvy and street smarts to make them truly effective,” he emphasizes.

Growing up, Reyes’ role models were his immediate family. “My grandfather was a forester and a public servant who taught me the values of integrity and respect for the environment. I spent my summer vacations working for my grandmother, a successful businesswoman who showed me how to be street smart and taught me the intricacies of business dealings. My father was a business executive who mentored me in navigating the complexities of the corporate world while wearing my heart on my sleeve. My mother inculcated in me the value of respect: for my leaders, my coworkers and my team members. She has shown me how to work with different people from all levels of society, and that I truly treasure,” recalls the Country Manager, who admires the Ayala family (coincidentally also Award participants) for their purpose-driven, long-term vision and flexibility in execution.
Calling his leadership style “collegial; centered on a clear vision executed by an inspired team,” Reyes believes a leader should be trustworthy, committed and forthright. “My leadership style has been greatly influenced by the values inculcated in me by my family, nurtured by my education and moulded by my experience and my interaction with people. Over the years I believe that leadership styles have changed in form, but they remain true in substance. I also believe that the concept of leadership can be taught, but needs to be practiced to unlock its full potential,” opines Reyes.

Apart from doing well financially, Reyes believes that success should bring about a positive impact on one’s shareholders, customers, employees – and most especially to on the community.

“Our business, more than anything else, is a People Business. Therefore, I like to be involved with any Human Resource issues. I consider the HR department to be a critical business partner, and therefore invaluable in promoting good leadership. Giving back to the community is also something that is very close to my heart and I think it is a reflection of everything that Genpact stands for. Our numerous Corporate Social Responsibility activities have resulted in awards from the Philippines Red Cross and various other organisations. I think this is something we can be very proud of.”
