There were 185 nominations and Southeast Asia housed most number of nominees, and less than 5% came from Eastern Asia.
In attendance were representatives from 44 corporations who voluntarily submitted to a management process audit in order to be eligible to contest in one of seven categories of Awards. This voluntary self-nomination is one of the most compelling points of the ACES as it is fueled by a company’s desire to see how it stacks up against others on a similar playing field.
“This year’s pool of aspirants showed a marked increase in numbers, which is testament to the greater emphasis corporations are placing on leadership, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, eco consciousness and community care. As this is the purpose of the ACES Awards, I hope their stories signal hope in a fast-moving world full of big challenges and inspire us to concentrate our gaze on the exciting track ahead,” said Shanggari Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer of MORS Group. Two Sri Lankan companies made ACES history when they won in their respective categories.
As a blue-chip brand with a history of 159 years, Sri Lanka Telekom PLC was named one of four Top Community Care Companies in Asia for its community development initiatives, and its decision to undertake projects on their own without collaboration with non-governmental organisations.
A large part of the community development initiatives earmarked by Sri Lanka Telecom are aligned with the Sri Lankan government’s vision and the organisation’s obligations as a telecommunications operator.
Sri Lanka Telecom recognises that ICT plays a catalytic role, believing that by empowering citizens with ICT and helping to raise living standards, Sri Lankan Telecom can be a catalyst for economic and social prosperity in Sri Lanka. All corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sponsorship activities are handled by the Corporate Relations Section and supported by all staff at all Regional Telecom offices island-wide. Asia Pacific Technology Systems (Pvt) Ltd is a Colombo-based Systems Integration service and support corporation which has been in operation since 2008, with customers across the corporate and enterprise market.
The company was named one of the top six Top SMEs in Asia for its differentiation in its service, as well as its readiness and responsiveness to market changes.
Although the products supplied are not manufactured within Sri Lanka but acquired from global MNCs, the company believes in service as a differentiating factor and thus strives to provide the right solution to clients. While they hope to make reliability a landmark feature of the company, growth in terms of value and wealth is also on the corporate agenda for the future, preferably in the next ten years. The ultimate aim, says the management, is to be a public listed company.
